Markable — Cookie Policy

Version: 1.0 Effective date: 8 May 2026 Contact: support@markable.uk

This policy explains how Markable uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and within the platform. It is published to satisfy the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK GDPR.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the operators of the site.

Some cookies are essential for the operation of a website (these are sometimes called "strictly necessary" cookies). Others are optional, and we will only set them if you agree.

2. Cookies we use

Markable's approach is privacy by default: we use only what we need.

2.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These are required to operate the platform and cannot be disabled. They include:

| Cookie | Purpose | Lifetime | | --- | --- | --- | | Authentication / session cookies | Keep you logged in; protect against session hijacking | Session, or up to 12 hours | | Security cookies | Protect against cross-site request forgery and other security threats | Session | | Load-balancing cookies | Route requests to a healthy server instance | Session |

Because these are strictly necessary for the Service you have requested, they do not require your consent under PECR.

2.2 Analytics

We use a privacy-preserving analytics product configured not to set tracking cookies and not to collect personally identifiable information about teachers' browsing. This allows us to understand high-level usage of the platform without identifying individuals.

If our approach to analytics changes, we will update this policy and seek consent where required.

2.3 What we do not use

We do not use:

  • Third-party advertising cookies;
  • Social media tracking pixels;
  • Cross-site tracking;
  • Cookies for profiling or behavioural advertising.

3. How to manage cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can usually:

  • See what cookies are stored;
  • Delete cookies;
  • Block cookies from being set;
  • Block third-party cookies.

Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent the Service from working correctly.

For more information about cookies generally, see ico.org.uk or aboutcookies.org.

4. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy from time to time. The "effective date" at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be notified by email or in-product notice.
